The Reviews section in PayMongo Protect is designed to help your team manually investigate transactions that have already been processed—whether they were successfully paid or failed. These transactions are flagged for further attention due to their risk profile, as determined by PayMongo’s machine learning engine or by custom fraud rules you have created.

Key Points

Flagged Transactions

Every transaction is evaluated in real-time for fraud risk. If a transaction meets certain criteria (for example, a high risk score or a rule match), it appears in the Reviews queue.

  • Why Transactions Are Flagged: Transactions may be flagged due to:

    • PayMongo’s default risk rules (e.g., risk level is medium or high)
    • Custom review rules set by your team (e.g., specific countries, payment amounts, etc.)
  • Manual Investigation Workflow:
    The Reviews queue allows your fraud team to:

    • Inspect transaction details and risk drivers.
    • Make a decision or taking further action as needed.
    • Close the Review—once the review is resolved, you can close it, which removes the transaction from the Reviews list.

Impact and Best Practices

  • Using Reviews helps ensure that legitimate customers are not incorrectly blocked, while giving your team control over high-risk transactions.
  • Regularly reviewing and closing flagged transactions keeps your fraud queue actionable and up-to-date.
  • Actions on Reviews:
    Only transactions that have been processed (paid or failed) can be reviewed. Closing a review means the transaction has been addressed and the review is deleted from the active list.
